The Funk Brothers sure had the Midas touch!

Where would we be without Motown? What strikes me a lot in these recordings is that they are two-track mono recordings. They didn't have true stereo back then and the separation sounds out when you listen through headphones. I traveled for 6 hours to see the 50th Anniversary Motown Celebrations at the Mission Vineyard in Napier, New Zealand and saw the 2010 lineups of The Four Tops, The Temptations, Mary Wilson of The Supremes, Martha & the Vandellas, and the Miracles. I can only imagine what it must have been like in their heyday. Have watched and listened to many documentary series.

The Four Tops vocals were impressive and cohesive. Plus their Funk Brothers backing was top notch too. Ralph Ellison was right on with his point. My mother loved Nat King Cole.
